Gloss Black Video Walkaround

Repair and Refinish into New Colour

Wheel painting is not only about changing colour. It can also refresh faded wheels, restore wheels after gutter rash repair, cover peeling coatings and help bring a whole vehicle theme together.
If your wheels are already damaged, that is often the best time to consider wheel refinishing or a full wheel respray, because the repair and colour change can be combined into one process.

The before-and-after example below shows why a proper wheel colour change can transform the feel of the whole car.

Damaged silver alloy wheel refinished into gloss black in a before and after comparison Damaged Silver to Gloss Black A popular upgrade when customers want a sharper, cleaner contrast.
Damaged silver alloy wheel refinished into bronze in a before and after comparison Damaged Silver to Bronze A warmer custom finish that adds colour without looking over the top.

Diamond Cut Wheels Are Often Refinished to One Colour

Refinished In Black

Machined or diamond cut face wheels look great on the right car, but many customers decide they would rather move away from the two-tone look.

A full one-colour wheel respray can make the wheel easier to maintain, easier to touch up in future and more consistent with the rest of the vehicle.

Wheel Colour Palette Ideas

We can talk through colour direction in person, and customers can select from colour chips and sample finishes at the shop.

Gloss Black Deep contrast and a high-gloss finish.
Satin Black A softer, lower-sheen performance look.
Gunmetal Popular for modern street and 4WD builds.
Charcoal Silver A darker silver with extra depth in the spokes.
Dark Silver Darker tone metallic with a crisp factory-inspired look.
Bright New Car Silver A clean OEM-style option that stays timeless.
Bronze Popular on performance cars and selected 4WD builds.
Enkei Bronze A warmer custom option for a more individual finish.

Our Wheel Refinishing Process

Our wheel refinishing work follows a full workshop process rather than a quick blow-over.

1
Cleaning an alloy wheel before refinishing

Clean

The wheels are washed and inspected so brake dust, silicone, grime and old contamination are removed first.

2
Sanding an alloy wheel during refinishing preparation

Sand

We sand the finish by hand and machine as needed to level damage, key the surface and smooth the wheel properly.

3
Degreasing an alloy wheel before primer and paint

Degrease

After sanding, the wheel is thoroughly degreased so no residue is trapped under primer, basecoat or clear.

4
Preparing and masking an alloy wheel for paint

Prepare

Any masking, filling, edge work and final prep is completed so the wheel is ready for a clean paint job.

5
Applying primer to an alloy wheel before painting

Prime

We apply the right primer stage to promote adhesion and create a consistent base for the colour coat.

6
Spraying colour onto an alloy wheel during painting

Paint

The chosen wheel colour and clear coat are applied using automotive refinishing products, not cheap aerosol shortcuts.

7
Curing and drying a freshly painted alloy wheel

Cure

The finish is left to cure properly so the coating can harden and settle before handling and refitting.

8
Refitting a finished alloy wheel onto a vehicle

Fit

Once the finish is ready, the wheels are refitted and checked so the final result looks right on the car.

Overnight process: Full colour change painting we require the car overnight to allow for proper curing time and fitment.

2 Pack Paint System for Wheels

Profix automotive 2-pack paint system with base coat, clear coat, hardener, reducer, mixing cup, paint strainer and spray gun

We love our 2 pack paint system, we prefer 2-pack automotive paint for most work.
It gives us better control over gloss level, colour matching and durability than cheap aerosol systems, and it is better suited to proper OEM automotive refinishing.

Why Customers Choose Professional Wheel Painting

DIY wheel painting videos often show decent prep ideas, but they rarely show the finish quality, durability and consistency that come from a professional process. Proper wheel painting is about more than spraying colour on a wheel. The prep, repair, primer and clear all matter.

We have been wheel painting and refinishing wheels in Melbourne for over 13 years, and the goal is always the same: a finish that looks right on the car and holds up over time.
